Norwegian Elkhound
I've been looking into getting a dog, and vigorously trying to convince mom to get one. I'm starting to wear her down a bit, but the kind of dog I want is a Norwegian Elkhound and word on the street is they shed a lot. Do they really shed as much as they say? My mom is a clean freak and I don't think she could stand a dog that sheds that much. Is anyone here familiar with them?

I am not familiar with them but I have had a few different dogs and have been around many dogs and they are all going to shed alot from what i have seen. However there are dogs that arent as bad as others.

As an Asst. Animal Tech. I can tell you the Norwegian Elkhound sheds almost as bad as a Siberian Husky. You need a short haired, warm climate dog to cut down on shedding. These breeds need to be kept inside in the winter, and have one of those little sweaters on for their walks. Hope that helps.
And remember puppies grow up! It is cute![move]"Our day WILL come!! I just hope I LIVE long enough to see it!"[/move]

Thanks Fedje! I know puppies grow, I like the full grown ones too. They're not as cute, but they're definately a pretty dog. I've never really liked short haired dogs that much. I've always wanted an Elkhound, a Golden Retriever or a German Shepherd. As an Asst. Animal Tech. I don't think I'm going to get one until I move out, unfortunately. Oh well, only 3 years left!
