Yeah, I saw this on the news last night.

I can't imagine this will last very long. An apartment manager has no right to tell his tennants how to dress.

if they dont like it they can move somwhere else. otherwise straighten up.

He has every right in the world to do that. Especially when by law he cannot rent out his empty apartments until the number of police calls goes down.

If he gives them warning then I'm sure he will have no problem, and when he is able to rent his apartments out again he should have it documented in the lease.

Our apartment we used to live in changed many things after we signed the lease and if given warning you can't do a damn thing about it. About the only thing you can do is get them to waive the penalty for breaking your lease and moving.

I think the law is on the side of the apartment.
Dress codes are rare, but not unheard of... especially in upscale condos and high end HOAs.

Unfortunately for the apartment owners, this may not work as well as expected.
I don't think the way people dress is an automatic indicator of their level or criminal activity.

this in my opionin is VERY close to cutting peoples civil rights..

and if you are found against the dress code u can be evicted?

There are, no doubt, plenty of people who are NOT in a gang that dress that way.

If there is a provision in the lease signed by EVERYONE effected, I would back off.

If not, and if I were discriminated against because of CLOTHING of all things, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to take civil action.

It doesn't' violate your civil rights.
I may not agree with the idea of profiling people based on their clothes, but it is not illegal.

The apartment is owned and operated by a private organization.
They are neither forcing people to live there, nor do they have a monopoly forcing people to live there.
They are saying that if you make the choice to live there, then you need to abide by their rules.
There rules can include restrictions on pets, candles, and yes, clothing.

So, it's ok to profile someone because they wear baggy clothes but it's not ok to profile someone at the airport based on the region of the world they're from?
I can see their point, but the inconsistencies in profiling and the media's portrayal of this profiling is nauseating.

Is the Fair Housing Act just a MN thing, or is it Nationwide?
