I lived in Manhattan for five years and found New Yorkers to be no more rude than anywhere else.

Boston is *MUCH* worse, IMHO. And DC is full of self-important political types who are as rude as rude gets.

    =Z=
I agree, I've been both places and the people in Boston are horrible.

Most New Yorkers really aren't rude at all. The drivers are horrible...it's every man for himself out there, but other than on the roads New Yorkers aren't bad at all. Most of them are courteous and polite.

With that said, they're not nearly as NICE as the people are in other cities. In Minneapolis or St. Paul if you look lost someone local will ask you if you need help. In New York if you look lost, you'll get run over! New Yorkers are polite, but people in other cities are more helpful and accomodating.

I've never been to Boston, but I have a friend that lives in Mass. and she says that the people up there are rude. She says NO ONE helps anyone else and they all have bad attitudes. She loves it down here in York. She says the people down here are so much nicer than up there (and I tend to think some of the people here are on the rude side), so it must be pretty bad! Just her opinion though, obviously.

Hey - they surely don't give a crap about you and your plight, but that doesn't make 'em rude!

I used to get asked for directions ALL THE TIME when I lived there - even when I had long hair down my back. I guess the midwesterness inside of me showed through...

I went to college in Massachusetts (was there in '86 - uffda!!) and my personal conclusion was that Bostonites have a natural inferiority complex because NYC developed into the Center of the Known Universe and Boston is just another city.
