Very hard to believe, but I've never been there. NYers sure are stereotyped as being rude and obnoxious so this comes as a surprise.

I don't think people in New York are rude, just somewhat anti-social due to the fact that they are all rushing around to get to work etc. Maybe the drivers are rude but that's the only way you'll get around. The rude new yorker thing is a bad stereotype. Most encounters I've had with people from new york have been friendly.

People are friendly around downtown I must say but when you get in the rougher areas or at night they can be pests. I've been there once however it was downtown a much nicer place to be then some of the places in NY.

I lived in Manhattan for five years and found New Yorkers to be no more rude than anywhere else.

Boston is *MUCH* worse, IMHO. And DC is full of self-important political types who are as rude as rude gets.
