Never, never spit gasoline while smoking

BERLIN - A German man in the northeastern town of Gross Godems was being treated for serious burns Monday after accidentally setting his apartment ablaze when he mixed up a bottle of gasoline with alcohol, police said.

The 56-year-old apparently grabbed the wrong bottle and took a swig from the gasoline flask, then spat it out when he realized his mistake.

The gas hit a lit cigarette, sparking the fire, police said.

The man's name was not released.

Ouch...Bet his skin (Burns) looked pretty GROSS too.

Tried to siphon some gas once by sucking it out of the tank....ONCE was enough. Fortunately....didn't swallow any.

I thought that Mythbusters proved you could pour gas on a cigarette and it would not start a fire. I think what happened was that he "atomized" the gas while spitting it out and the fumes got lit by the cigarette.

I don't think they poured gas on a cigarette. I think they did it the other way around. They dropped a lit cigarette into a puddle of gas (like Mel Gibson does in 'Payback'), and showed that the cigarette would not start the gas on fire.

I think you are right but either way gas + cigarette does NOT = fire!
