Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports it is now official, Minnesota RB Gary Russell will not be returning to school for the 2006 season. Academic failure forced Russell to drop out of the university last spring, and he attended a local community college to try to better his grades. Russell, who would've been a junior, is not enrolled in classes for the fall semester.

The Gophers will be lucky to win 5 games this year, they may have won 7 with Russell, but they have no depth on the OL and DL.

They will get destroyed by Cal on National television as well, but at least we have the new stadium to look forward to.

how could a guy be that stupid..... if he has a couple big years he could have been following Barber and Maroney into the NFL. Maybe one of the bigger universities will offer a scholarship AND someone to do his homework.

It's sad when you have a hell of an athlete, but they don't have the brains upstairs to match....

Hopefully a kid like that can get some extra help with the studies and make it happen some way....
