Multitasking Makes You Fat

Juggling multiple tasks at the office may impress your boss, but it could have unintended consequences for your waistline.

Working on several projects that require you to switch gears might cause you to binge on junk food later, according to new research from the journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.

When you’re constantly switching back and forth between assignments, you use up more brainpower, which then breaks down your self-control, explains study author Ryan Hamilton, Ph.D., an assistant professor of marketing at Emory University. On the other hand, when you stick to one task without being distracted by another assignment, your self-control doesn’t break down as quickly.
