Re: The movies that gave you nightmares thread

    Vikingmike had a good list

    1- The Exorcist
    2- Texas Chainsaw Massacre
3- Friday the 13th (I built up an immunity to this, but first time was creepy)
    4- Carrie
    5- Rosemary's Baby
    6- Halloween
7- Psycho (the music made this one, low bass about thirty seconds before anything happened)

    I would personally add

    8. Alien
(The book freaked me out more than the movie)
    9.
    Omen

When I was in second grade, the alien from Pee Wee's Big Adventure scared the crap out of me.

The movies that give me nightmares are the ones that are more realistic, not so much the supernatural stuff.
For example, White Squall would give me nightmares about dying on a boat.

1976 movie called Grizzly.. I was about 6 or 7 when I seen it and at about the age where I just started hunting for small game and stuff.. always carried a slug just in case.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grizzly_%28film%29

The film is about an 18 foot man-eating Grizzly bear that terrorizes a National Forest. The film stars Christopher George (from television's The Rat Patrol), veteran western actor Andrew Prine and Oscar nominee Richard Jaeckel. Widely considered a Jaws rip-off, Grizzly used many of the same plot devices as its shark predecessor, a huge box office success during the previous year 1975. Its tagline was "18 feet of gut-crunching terror."

I was thinking the same thing but this one is a bit more terrifying than Barney.

For me a movie that gave me the creeps as a kid was one called "The Tingler", it was about being killed by the fear inside us. A old black and white one with a twilight Zone feel to it.

But number 1 scary is "The Exorcist", "Last House on the Left", and "The Hills Have Eyes"(original) get some honorable mention.
