C'mon, I know that there got to be some MMA fans on here!
American football attracts many people because it's one of the most brutal, bone-crushing and aggressive sports in the World. If anything can compete with that, it's mixed martial arts. In football, the ball takes a some focus away from each-other, but in MMA the only objective is the man standing in front of you. It's the ultimate "mano y mano" showdown!
This is the thread for MMA fans, whether you're a fan of the...
U.S.-based "Ultimate Fighting Championship" (largest MMA company, U.S. rules)
U.S.-based "Strikeforce" (biggest competitor to UFC in USA, U.S. rules)
U.S.-based "Bellator Fighting Championships" (knockout tournaments, U.S. rules)
Japan-based "DREAM" (Pride's successor, most of the same personnel)
Japan-based "World Victory Road" (Sengoku Raiden Championship, DREAM's rival)
Japan-based "Shooto" (been around for a long time by MMA standards)
China-based "Art of War Fighting Championship" (similar to Pride)
Brazil-based "Jungle Fight Championship" (South America's version of Pride)
Canada-based "Maximum Fighting Championship" (Canada's version of UFC)
U.K.-based "Clash of Warriors" (European version of the UFC)
"World Wide Cage Network" (network of mixed martial arts promotions)
... or former MMA big-time promotions like the..
Japan-based "Pride Fighting Championsips" (largest MMA company before UFC buyout)
U.S.-based "International Fight League" (sold to former rival, the UFC)
U.K.-based "Cage Rage Championships" (went bankrupt)
Personally, I first got interested in MMA after watching fighters like Cro-Cop, Rampage and Fedor destroy their opponents in Pride. It was like WWE, only for real and much more exciting. To be honest, I still like Pride more than any other MMA promotions. The characters were much more colorful, the rules very better, the events were awesome, and the atmosphere was incredible.
Then for some reason, I lost interest in MMA. Maybe because it was at the time I became a Vikings fan, or maybe because Pride was sadly sold to the UFC. Anyhow, I gained interest in MMA again when the Ultimate Fighter aired on TV, and now I am a bigger fan of MMA than ever.
My current favorite fighters are, by weight class:
Heavyweight: Brock Lesnar (the man can't be human)
Light Heavyweight: Forrest Griffin (not the best fighter, but uncanny personality)
Middleweight: Anderson Silva (I don't care what Dana White says, I love this guy)
Welterweight: Georges St. Pierre (he looks unbeatable)
Leightweight: I don't really have a favorite at the moment.
My all-time favorite: Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovi?. Fedor Emelianenko second. Both are Pride legends.
What do you think about MMA, and which fighters do you like or dislike?
