Supposedly, they were referring to the movie Fargo, not the wonderful city that I live in, but I don't think they thought this one out too well...
Here is the article in the Fargo Forum regarding it:
    http://www.in-forum.com/articles/rss.cfm?id=213526

    You wish it was Fargo.
Then you might actually have a successful college football team.

In the end, I would not care if they made that comment in the context of the metro area not being like the town I live in.

Hell, Fargo should make a counter-ad that says it's not the crime ridden, welfare laden, traffic congested clusterf%$k twin cities.
Actually, Minneapolis and the surrounding areas have some of the highest Per-capita incomes in the country.
That may be, but I'm pretty damn sure we have some of the highest welfare rates as well.
(Too lazy too look up) - better suited for another thread anyways.

Fargo does have a bad reputation as being a boring, plain town with nothing going on.
    Unfortunate.
From my brief stints there, I've been neither impressed nor unimpressed.
    bleh.
Seems a lot like the TC area with less traffic, violence, and over inflated housing.

That is a fair assessment (the like TC part).
We tend to be pretty heavy into the arts like Minny is.
In fact, Trollwood Preforming Arts school is here, and their annual main stage musical recognized world wide (elementary through high school kids).
Our college support is stronger, as is the support for our minor League baseball team (FM Redhawks), but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that we do not have a professional sports team in town.
We are getting a new USHL team in here this fall, so that should be interesting.
We also have our fair share of bars and strip clubs (although the quality isn't as high as Minny).
So all in all, very similar to the TC, just smaller.
We support a metro area of around 150k.

    Lighten up!
    :P
North Dakota should send all Minnesotans and the Coen Bros thank you cards every day for the publicity they got from the movie.
Minnesotans had to put up with the brunt of the stereotypes while Fargo just kept getting name recognition.

As Cole said in the article, any mention of Fargo is positive as long as it isn't about death or disaster.
That is a good attitude to have.

Traffic and clusterF is just part of living in a city of the size of MPLS/StP.
    And murder, crime,pollution,gangs etc.

I would take Fargo any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Well, it's easy to say Fargo doesn't have any of those problems... because Fargo doesn't have anything.
