Period.
Just as bad as walking into Wal-Mart and stuffing a CD in your pants.

Can you imagine GM or Ford retaliating against used car sales?
Metallica are nothing but money-grubbing whores. If that were not enough, their music post-1988 has all of the artistic merit of Herman's Hermits.
Edit: Why would anyone steal from Wal-Mart? They edit their materials to take out the "naughty" stuff?
Talk about lack of any regard for artistic integrity.

- or the stealing thing.
Artists work very hard to produce their work - and the cavalier attitude the so many take towards stealing their efforts with no compensation really gets me.
Would it be okay if some dude walked into your apartment and took your TV?

There is a huge difference between burglary/breaking and entering and downloading off a site that is provided on the world wide web that I PAY for. You want to make that comparison but yet you don't think we can compare Bellicheat to the McKinnie thing. Come on Zeus."marstc09" wrote:

This is true. But Metallica and any other artists who rail against it will be on the wrong side of history. Quality recording equipment is becoming cheaper and easier to use all the time. In addition, with the quick download times of music online, along with the ease of distribution, it will become more and more simple for artists hoping to make it to distribute there works on a massive scale, without the help of huge record companies.
I think Lars is a dumbass, too.

Yes, this is still a ways off, and there will no doubt always be thousands of vapid musicians for the few decent ones. But I look forward to independent bands driving down the price to almost nothing. Sure, it basically means that even fewer musicians will be able to do it for a living anymore, but I see that as a plus. When there's no money to be had, and an even smaller chance of "making it," one would hope that the ratio of people doing it for the money rather than for the art will drop significantly further. I don't see how this could be a bad thing.
Again, I'm not saying that piracy is just or lawful (it clearly isn't), just that the industry is changing in such a way that this discussion will be irrelevant soon.
