This may be long, but a true and very big part of my growing

    up and football history...

My Father took me to a field one evening in West Hartord, CT...

There was a bunch of kids there and some grown ups.....

It was a meeting for tryouts for the PEE WEE West Htfd, Vikings...

Well I did my best to act like I knew what I was doing, and I guess well enough to get an invite back..

I ended up playing for the Vikings ( this is how I choose the NFL Vikings as my favorite team), for 3 years.....We where okay, but never a champ..

I then ended up going into the Midgets League, here I was a Raider....

3 more years and no championship, but I had become a dominate player, and my helmet reflected that.....I had more recognision stickers than most O players did....I was a Nose Guard and O Tackle...

I them went on to play for the Lions, in the Pony league, another team without a Championship, but I was recognized as one of the stand-out players for 2 years..

Then High Schoo, where I started as a varsity player in my Sophmore year.....Again No Championships.....But lot's of football, fun , and girls...

I never went to college, went into the Military, and then when I came home, got involved with Flag Football...

Played for a number of years and loved it all..

Now here is the best part of the story,,,,,We made it too the Flag SB one year, it was us, the Indian Hill Warriors Vs the Hartford Knights..

The Knights where an all Black Team, very good and undefeated.....

No one gave us a chance against this team...

But I swear on my life, we played some of the best hard nosed football in our lives that day, and when the whistle blew at the end of the game, we where Champs........27 to 21..

I"ll never forget that, us against the world, and we did it..

What I'm really trying to say is, no one wants to recognize our team at this point, and being a home dog to the Steelers proves this...

But come Sunday, I think we will all be proud to be fans of the MN Vikings...

I always have and always will...

Hope this wasn't to much of a rant...

Good story, Ned. Reminds me of the times I had growing up. My brothers (Paul and Zac) and I used to play flag football all the time growing up. Every fall, when the Vikes' season started, we would play for a couple hours every Sunday before the game... What great times THOSE were. I remember this neighborhood friend of ours, his name was Tim, a really scrawny kid. I was almost twice the size of him... Anyway, we were playing one day, and I tackled him and accidentally sat on his head when I tackled him... Poor kid, he bawled his eyes out...

    Definitely fun times, for sure...

Great story Ned. I only find two things hard to believe.

I've seen your pic in the "Member Pics" thread & it is hard to believe you were ever small enough to play in the "peewee" league & even harder to believe you played in the "midget" league!
