Mark "The Bird" Fidrych dead at 54

You young guys wouldn't remember this name, but he was really a remarkable pitcher for that one year in 1976...a real phenomenon that year.

BOSTON – Whether he was dominating hitters or hauling asphalt, Mark Fidrych had fun.
The colorful pitcher talked to baseballs, smoothed the mound with his hands and high-fived teammates in the middle of the diamond. He had one terrific season in 1976, and after injuries curtailed his career — just five years in the majors with the Detroit Tigers — he lived on his farm in Northborough, Mass., where he enjoyed driving his truck and using it for building projects.

    " THE BIRD "

    ;D

How can I ever forget him....

As the story says, one of, if not THE, most colorfull players of his time.
I used to watch, or at least tried to, every game he pitched.
He would easily put a smile on anyones face, and usually left me with a sore belly after watching him pitch a game.
He could make me laugh for a whole game sometimes.
Sorry to see him leave this earth, at such a young age.

May you rest in peace Mark, and thank you for making the game of baseball so much more enjoyable to watch, when you did take the mound.

    R.I.P. Mark.

Too bad what would have been an unusual (in a good way) and entertaining career was not a long one as it would have been fun to watch.

From an Orioles fan who enjoyed watching you pitch.
