Man on Probation for Theft Charged Again
ERIE, Pa. - A man on probation for stealing $361,000 from a business he co-owned has stolen from his new employer, police said.
Patrick J. Leighton, 59, of Erie, stole $2,621 from a veterinary clinic while he was working as a manager in November, according to state police.
He was charged with theft by unlawful taking in January. He was being held in the Erie County jail for allegedly violating probation in his previous case.
In 2003, Leighton pleaded guilty to stealing from a floor-cleaning business and was sentenced to 10 to 23 months in jail and placed on probation for 37 months.
At the time, Leighton said he had a gambling problem. He still owes about $350,000 restitution.
