I'm not sure I understand how the son was able to float away, wouldn't you swim after him?

I think he tried his best to keep him in site and within reach.After four hours, the currents picked up, and Christopher began to drift from his father's reach. Because of the darkness, they couldn't see each other. So Marino shouted out part of a phrase to his son.Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

what a touching story. Beyond belief I really think the father did his best in terrible circumstances.
