    Joe Torre Quits Yanks

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3069115

Joe Torre is out as manager of the New York Yankees, rejecting a substantial pay cut after the team failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs for the third straight year.

Torre turned down a $5 million, one-year contract Thursday - $2.5 million less than he made last season.

Rather than put up with the indignity of a salary slap coupled with a performance-based contract, the man who led the Yankees to playoff appearances in all 12 years he managed walked.

Honestly, I don't think it was a slap in the face at all.
The Yankees Org., was going to let him go anyways.
So instead of really slapping him, by fireing him, they made an offer that he could turn down, and this was there way of letting him save face..

He was a great manager, but the team is ready for a change........If someone out there needs a manager, they don't have to look that far now for sure, but maybe Torre is ready for retirement also.....Only time will tell....

I think A-Rod is right behind Joe. I wanna see A-Rod in a Marlins uniform next season. He's the only guy, that can revive Marlins baseball right now.!!! ;D

I don't think LaRussa would be a good fit with the Yankees. I think they should just promote Mattingly.I don't know how the players would respond to a manager like Joe Girardi or LaRussa who are hard nosed managers. They should just keep it in house. They would have a better chance at retaining players like Rivera,A-Rod and Posada if they just stayed with Mattingly.

Not too tough to manage a team that's loaded with talent . . . and money.

I loved every season the Yankees got eliminated as it sent a powerful message to kids that even if you have all the talent, and all the money . . . you still need to operate as a team to win!

I bet they go with Mattingly.
