Invisibility cloak 'step closer'

Scientists in the US say they are a step closer to developing materials that could render people invisible.

Researchers at the University of California in Berkeley have developed a material that can bend light around 3D objects making them "disappear".
The materials do not occur naturally but have been created on a nano scale, measured in billionths of a metre.
The team says the principles could one day be scaled up to make invisibility cloaks large enough to hide people...Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

Re: Invisibility cloak 'step closer'
Bodysuits would make more sense, especially if the materials could do so at all angles. Interesting concept.

Re: Invisibility cloak 'step closer'
It will eventually happen... as Aurthur C. Clark said in his book Profiles for the Future, anything is possible and to think otherwise is a failure of the imagination.
There were plenty of scientists prior to the 20th Century that said flight would never be possible because humans couldn't create the thrust needed to allow objects to take flight... and now we have double-decker airliners.
I also believe the Army was working on some sort of projection-armor that would be on tanks... it would project what was on the other side of the tank so it would actually have an almost 'Moving Camouflage' look to it... like you are looking through it. Not nearly as cool as this stuff in the article, but you know the government will/has put billions into researching this.Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

Re: Invisibility cloak 'step closer'
I heard about this on the radio this morning. If everyone had one, it would be useless. Only a few people, like me, should have them.
Invisiblity would be fun as all heck to have. We're bringing purple back.

I think Del already has one of those. That bastard hasn't been seen for months.

How many assasinations would there be with this thing?

Re: Invisibility cloak 'step closer'
For all we know, they could already have invented an invisibility cloak.
After all, it's not like anyone would be able to see the evidence.
