    Re: Inmate eats cellmate

I don't know what it is about those French...maybe their reputation for cuisine is not what we think it is!
Check this out from last summer:

CHATEAUROUX, France, July 9 (AFP) - A French prisoner serving 30 years for murder and cannibalism was under psychiatric evaluation Friday after killing another detainee and trying to eat his brain, officials and a prison guards' union said.

The 36-year-old inmate, who was not named, had to be overpowered by eight people to stop him gorging on his victim, the head of the Federal Autonomous Pentitentiary Union, Frederic Grandcolas, told AFP.

The attack happened in the prison of Saint-Maur, central France, last Sunday.

The prisoner, jailed in 2000 for his horrific crimes three years earlier, burst out of his cell as dinner was being handed out and attacked guards and convicts serving the meal with an ashtray.

After smashing the skull of one of the convicts, he started eating the brain before being hauled away and taken to a psychiatric institution nearby.

During subsequent questioning by police, he said "he heard voices telling him he was going to be attacked during the meal, but he says he doesn't remember anything of what he did," according to a local state prosecutor, Stephanie Forax.

Grandcolas said he understood that the prisoner would not be put back in the general penitentiary population after the mental evaluation was over.

Several staff at the Saint-Maur jail had to receive counselling after the incident

A prison inmate in france killed and ate his cellmate.

Two upper body muscles and half of a lung were missing.

I have no idea how this could happen.

Where in that article does it say he ate his cellmate?

Where in the article does it say two upper body muscles and half of a lung were missing?

    The answer is: Nowhere!

The article talks about a prisoner killing his cellmate and claiming to have eaten his heart. Nothing else, just his heart.

Nothing was said about upper body muscles missing.

Nothing was said about half of a lung missing.

In fact the heart wasn't even eaten. It was still in the body.

So all we have here is a prisoner who stabbed his cellmate to death with a chisel.

    That's it.

So I have to ask, why did you start a thread saying an inmate ate his cellmate, when you knew by reading the link you provided, it didn't happen?

Why did you state that two upper body muscles and half of a lung were missing, when that was nowhere to be found in the article?

No one was eaten. No body parts were eaten. So why start a thread with a false title?

Did you think you could pull a fast one over on us at PP.O just because the article was in French?

    This is a direct translation from French to English of the article you provided the link to where you supposedly obtained your info;

The prisoner of the prison of Rouen (Seine-Maritime) which killed one of its two fellows-prisoner in the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, affirming at the time of his police custody to have eaten the heart of his victim ", is" an inveterate liar ", declared Thursday the public prosecutor Joseph Schmit at the time of a press conference to the law courts of Rouen. The autopsy of the victim, Thierry Baudry, 31 years, realized Thursday afternoon "reports that the heart was found in the body of the victim. It is in its envelope and is in good condition ", indicated the prosecutor. The presumed author of the facts, Nicolas Cocaigne, 35 years, in custody within the framework of a sex case, had affirmed at the time of his police custody violement to have struck with blows of fist and foot his fellow-prisoner. He would have then carried, "under a criminal impulse", several blows with the thorax using a chisel before choking his fellow-prisoner. Cocaigne, "which were not known for facts of violence", added Mr. Schmit, then affirmed to have torn off the heart of its victim and to have eaten it. It is a supervisor who discovered the body of Thierry Baudry Wednesday to 7h with an important wound with the thorax. A wound noted at once by the medical examiner called on the spot. Imprisoned on November 26 with the prison of Rouen, Nicolas Cocaigne purged a four years sorrow of imprisonment for sexual aggression. The victim, like the third fellow-prisoner of the cell, was in provisional detention in waiting of its lawsuit for crime and offences in sexual matter. The prison authorities took Thursday the opening of an internal investigation.

    It does here

    Translation:

The French prisoninmate Nicolas Cocaigne admits, that he has murdered his celemate Thierry Baudry and eaten him afterwards.

Baudrys corps were found wednesday morning by a guard and an ortopsey showed, that two pecs muscles and half a lung were missing.

Nicolas Cocaigne has admitted that he hit Baudry, stabed him with sicsors and strangulated him with a plastic bag.

    Murder and kannibalism
Cocaigne, who serves a four year sentence for rape in the prison of Rouen, will be charged with first degree murder and possibly kannibalism.

A third cellmate, who claimd to have been asleep, while the attack took place, will also be charged with murder.

You'd would think they were two different events.

In the first (French) article he says he kicked him, stabbed him with a chisel, then choked him to death & claimed to have eaten his heart. Which was proven false by an autopsy.

In the second (Dutch?) article he says he stabed him with sicsors and strangulated him with a plastic bag. An autopsy revealed two pec muscles & half a lung were missing.

Talk about conflicting stories. Especially since they both are supposedly citing what Cocaigne admited to doing.

So which article is closer to the truth?

It appears this happened in France, so I would tend to believe the first article rather than the second.

It just goes to show you how the press twist the real facts to sell newspapers.

I expect both of these writers to be contacted soon with job offers as sports columnists for the Minneapolis Star Tribune & the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Yeah. I admit it's pretty dificult to tell what is the truth to the story.

Btw. the other one is from a Danish newspaper.

That is unbelieveable. How wouldn't the guards at the prison know about this until after muscles and a lung were missing??

I can't believe this many people actually believe it happened. After reading the first article that completely debunks the whole story, it appears to me the Danish one was fabricated from the inmates lie for the sole purpose of selling newspapers
