IBM's Roadrunner Supercomputer Sets World-Record Speed
Heard about this on a podcast this morning. A petaflop (FLoating point Operations Per Second) is equal to 1,000,000,000,000,000 calculations per second. After petaflop come exaflop, zettaflop and yottaflop, each one 1,000 times greater than the prior one.

Beep beep! Sorry coyote, but you're still not wily enough to touch Roadrunner, IBM (NYSE:IBM)'s supercomputer, billed as the fastest in the world operating at 1 petaflop or 1,000 trillion calculations per second.
To be housed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, IBM built Roadrunner for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration to ensure the safety and reliability of the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile. The supercomputer, named after New Mexico's state bird, will also be used for astronomy, energy, human genome science and climate change research.Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L. Mencken

I hate it when new technology comes out.
Almost like "Keepin up with the Jones'" as everybody now believes the puter they have on thier desk needs to be replaced.
More work for Marrdro and the minions.
:'(Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Technology is all good, but the smart thing to do is to usually wait a couple years before buying any new technology to wait for the price to decrease and the quality to increase considerably.
I m like a Ja Rule poster, cause I'm off the wall.

Maybe I might vacate the cube for an office.
I was an outside shot at getting the Lead position but it is now down to just 2 of us.
Go figure.
I will let you know.
Maybe I will be one of the guys screaming for a new puter every time a new one comes out.
;DMany many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
