Re: How Did You Pick Your Football Teams or any team?

I came to the US in 1998 and went to college up in Superior, Wisconsin. It's right by Duluth so we had a fair amount of fans for both Vikings and Packers. The first game I ever watched (and understood!) was a Vikings vs Pack in Moss's rookie season. The Vikes nailed the Pack so I thought they were the better team and started rooting for them. I was devastated when they lost to the Falcons in the Championship game. My addiction to the Vikings got worse every year, and here I am following the frickin off-season .

What I love about the Vikings is that they are as inconsistent as my Sri Lankan cricket team. You can't quite savor the joy of victory without knowing what it's like to be crushed in defeat. On that note, I'm getting tired of the defeats and would like an SB soon

    I was born into it.........

One of my first memories is the 99 yd run by Dorsett.
My family really could care less about football, but I knew I loved it right away.

My buddies and I have since made it a point to watch as many games as we can together, make an annual trip where we all go to a game, and last I made a "Vikes Lounge" out of my garage (complete with Kegerator, and memoribilia).

I even converted my Inlaws who are from NE and dont watch pro football to full on Vikes Fans.

    Vikes won that game, BTW.

Re: How Did You Pick Your Football Teams or any team?

Easy - I was 7 years old in the mid 70s.
I fell in love with football itself but in particular, this awesome purple (my favorite color) team with horns on their helmets.
For about 3 years, I hassled my dad about the rules and regulations of the game.
I honestly think it was love at first sight with me and the Vikings but it was so much fun to watch Tark, the PPEs, Chuck Foreman and the rest of them.
    I loved Bud Grant too.
He has really intense eys and he could turn your blood to ice if you screwed up in the game and had to face him.
    LOL.
He's a great guy, though, and one heck of a coach.

Now, living about half way between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, I should probably have become a Steelers fan since they were winning Super Bowls left and right and the Vikes were losing them left and right, and certainly, other than local fans, nobody had much interest in the Browns but the Vikes caught my eye and I've been with them ever since.
My uncle lived next door and was a huge Steelers.
My sister and I, just kids, used to get posterboard and make up "I hate the Steelers" and "Steelers suck" signs and put them on the front of his house.
We came up with all kinds of sayings and had a different sign every week.
Uncle Gary is a tad on the immature side and would get so mad.
We'd wait for him to wake up (he was always out late, not married) and walk outside to get his paper.
He'd go up to the sign, get really mad, and tear it up.
    We'd laugh hysterically.
I sometimes really miss being a kid.

Yeah, you and the rest of us.
You should have been a fan in the 70s and 80s.
Our beloved team has sure put as through a lot.

I hope you have a ton of patience because this team consistently tries the fans' patience.
Yet we come back every year.
Hey, it's the second longest relationship I've ever had - 42 with my family, 35 with the Vikes and 18 with Hubby.

    Green Bay Blue Bombers, right?
I was waiting for my luggage one day several years back at Pittsburgh airport with my dad and he saw a bunch of huge guys going to pick up their luggage.
He said they had to be football players so I asked.
They said they played with the Green Bay Blue Bomber.
I had never heard of them until then.
    Pretty neat.
