    The high cost of vacation!

Who plans on traveling this summer? I just booked airline tickets for me and my daughter from Phoenix to Omaha to the tune of almost $800, and that was through a discount internet service!! It would have been over $100 more per person to fly into Sioux Falls, SD. Going directly through the airlines was more expensive, and that was with a military discount. It was either that, or pay $3/gallon (or more) for fuel, plus a one night stay somewhere between here and there. So, which is the lesser of 2 evils? Driving for 24 hrs plus fuel, food, and motel costs, or 4 hrs on a plane and 3 hrs in a car? Discuss......

    Peace through superior firepower!

    It all depends.

Do you have a vehicle waiting for you there?

How much time do you have total to take the trip?

    Do you like to drive?

Have you quit beating your wife yet?

I walked to the south side of town and took a mini-vacation. It didn't cost much, just a few blisters and a bottle thrown at the back of my head.

    secret.. frequent flyer miles..

my whole family of six is going to hawaii off of them.

not to mention we went to minnesota a month ago off of them..

thats 12 round trips off of frequent flyer miles.. not to mention my sister goes to minny ever year off of them, and my mom goes up there ever now and then..

so the secret is to get a job that has you flying all over the place nearly every week...

then when you vacation, you can nearly for free
i m better than you, so just give up...

 Thats not really a secret and a lot of businesses don't let people travel often or choose airlines that don't have frequent flyer programs. I work in corporate travel and if at all possible our clients choose Airtran or Southwest unless its an executive thats traveling.

my dad works for Parker Hannifan...

they say since he travels so much, the flyer miles are technically the company's, but the person who earned them can use them

its a pretty sweet deal, he gets to book his flights and what not..

and keep and use the miles
i m better than you, so just give up...

That company is in the minority then. Most companies keep a tight reign on their travel arrangements.

I travel at an average only a couple times a month, but at the rate I'm going its going to take me years to get enough frequent flyer miles to fly from Chicago O'hare to Chicago Midway

FF miles are a big help, as are Hotel Points. Another key is getting/using a credit card that gives you points as well. American Express gives you points for every dollar you spend. Instead of your ATM card, use you miles card for everything: gas, groceries, clothes, etc. A credit card attached to say your Delta Frequent Flyer program is great. However, Amex points can be transferred to almost any airline or hotel that has a point system. Definetly a good way to supplent FF programs.

    Tommy Boy,

Hey, I will send you some photos from New Zealand this summer. It will be work related all except for 11 days that is. During those 11 days, we will be snowboarding and traveling the Fjords.

Yes, budgets are tight all the way around.

Well, when I get back, I will have one of those frequent flyer tickets that potus was talking about waiting for me also. It is a ton of miles to travel to NZ and back.
