Man accused of killing friend with grilling fork

    Associated Press

A 38-year-old man died after being stabbed in the chest with a grilling fork by a friend angered that the victim had pulled a bandanna from his head and tried to insult him in front of a girlfriend, a criminal complaint filed Monday said.

Scott F. Lemerond was stabbed as he and Todd Charles fought in the living room of Charles' Green Bay home and then in the kitchen during a party Saturday night, the complaint said.

"I didn't want Scott to die," Charles told police.

Charles, 38, was charged in Brown County Circuit Court with first-degree reckless homicide, a crime punishable by up to 60 years in prison. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 20.

Lemerond was killed by a single stab wound from a serving fork with two prongs at least 3 inches long, a utensil commonly used for grilling, Brown County Medical Examiner Al Klimek said.

Charles told police that he and Lemerond were friends, but Charles said he got angry when Lemerond "took my do-rag and started hitting me with it trying to insult me in front of his girlfriend," the complaint said.

The men started fighting and the melee moved to the kitchen where Charles asked Lemerond to leave but Lemerond tore off Charles' shirt, the complaint said.

As the men wrestled on the floor and Lemerond bit Charles in the leg, Charles said he reached up to a kitchen drawer and grabbed what he hoped was a knife for intimidation or self-defense, the complaint said.

Charles said he didn't know he had grabbed the grilling fork but he held it in front of him and again told Lemerond to leave.

The fighting resumed, the pair rolled around some more and Charles told investigators "he thought Scott rolled over on the top of the fork," the complaint said.

A 15-year-old girl at the party said she saw Charles bring the fork toward Lemerond's chest as Lemerond tried to push it away but she could not tell if Charles stabbed him, the complaint said.

"It looked like it touched the guy's chest and then Todd threw the knife on the counter" as the fighting continued until Lemerond clutched his chest and then fell to the floor, the girl told police.

Sorry to make light of a sad situation.

That is why he stabbed him with " just a grilling fork"

You know the kind that have 4 inch spikes on them.

Hell what would he used if he "really" wanted to kill someone?

    Geez!
