Happy Reunion After 66 Years!!
I guess you guys missed the jokes this weekend. Sorry about that, but I found the last of my husband's sisters he hasn't seen since he was 3 years old in 1940.
It was a great reunion! As you can see from the photo, it was a happy time for them both.
I'm just sorry it will be short, the Dr. gives her 6 months to live. She has throat cancer.
I will try to get him back down to Gate City, VA to see her again soon, and spend more than a weekend.

Sorry about the cancer Fedje...at least he got to see her though! You never know how those things will work out either, so she may have a lot more than 6 months left. How did you track her down? The internet?

Re: Happy Reunion After 66 Years!!
Keep in mind that this is in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, and my husband is Native American.
The story is....
It was just after the depression, and the family went to the "poor farm" while his father tried to find work. The girls were put to work in peoples' homes as servants, cleaning etc. The boys were sent to the orphanage because they were to young to work (Willard was 3 years old). His brother was adopted, but Willard was just placed in a home as a "welfare child." The parents got the girls back when times got better, but not the boys. I sent for his birth certificate and found he wasn't adopted!
This is where the search for his family started in 1972.
Welfare told me where they had lived. I wrote the postmaster in that town and he got in touch with his mother and two sisters that still lived there.
Several years later I found the people that had adopted his brother and the brothers were reunited at his home in Michigan.
I never found out just how this sister got separated, just that no one knew where she was. I've been searching since 1972 for her.
It seems when she became ill she told the social worker where she thought she had family. They found the nieces, called them, and the reunion was on!
Below is a picture of his mother(on right), one sister, and a few of her children. You can see how poor they were in that area.
