    Smooth as silk.

    I used to have a Walther P-99

WALTHER HERE and a Beretta 92FS BERETTA HERE - both in 9mm - but I sold them off years ago.
The Walther was, simply put, the most amazing 9mm I ever fired in my life.
The Beretta was another story - open slides aren't my thing.

AS for the size of the round - that's all academic.
The caliber matters a lot less than how comfortable you are with the weapon, since rounds that aren't on target have no affect

I suggest going to gun shops and actually putting the weapons in your hands.
    See which ones feel best.
For the novice shooter - or the small framed individual - a 9mm is a great place to start.
Again, don't let the caliber debate influance your choice until you have plenty of firearm experience under your belt.

For giggles, I also have an AR-15...

    Sigs are sweet.

I agree with getting a feel before you buy.
    I bought a S&W .40 and held the Springfield XD .45.
The S&W was by far the best.

I had a 92F in the service, they suck IMO.

I need an AR and I would want to load it tactically.

hey Ultra, Im not looking for anything the size of a .45 or. 40, do you have any thoughts or suggestions of a handgun in the .38 or .380 range?
I am not really familiar with a lot of those calibers that are not revolvers.
    I am assuming you want a semi-auto?

I know a buddy that has a Bersa Thunder.
There are many different models, but I have heard good things and wouldn't mind one myself for a carry weapon.

    http://www.bersafirearmsusa.com/detail_bersa380.php

Here are some links that may help:
    http://www.savvysurvivor.com/basic/handgun.htm
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070320000214AAEUlmo

What made you decide on those calibers as opposed to the others?
Just remember, the lighter/smaller the gun the more it will buck; especially harder on females and makes the experience unpleasant.

I talked to my brother about the handgun he had, and his suggestion for piece we are looking for was about that range I mentioned earlier. But, from the links you gave me, the best suited caliber might be the 9mm. I just worry about the wife handling something with major recoil. Thanks again for the info.
    Good choice.
A 9mm is is more pleasurable to shoot for a lady.
If you get a good, solid one without the polymer base it should be ok.

I've always liked this model, which comes in a 9mm or .45, dual purpose collectors iten AND home protection!

Mauser c-96 Broomhandle, which is an semi-auto, and is permitted in NYS.

    another fine site I found

    www.gunbroker .com

    enjoy
    That's a little odd for a handgun.
Obviously you would not get the full auto version.
And I bet they are spendy.
    There are some on gunbroker.
Probably not the most comfortable to carry.

I do like the Bersa Thunder series.
I have read they are great carry guns and I have thought about getting one.
I like the smaller .380 and they are fairly priced.

    I doubt it.

And I believe the carbine variation of the base m16 model is the m4, Ultra will correct that if I'm wrong though.

If it is the newer model, yes it is the m4.

The have the AR versions, just not full auto.

    I pimped-out my Browning Buckmark .22.

Bought a Weaver base and a Red Dot Scope.
