With all the talk about global warming and hurricanes I thought I would post a link to this study. It seems that the sun has been burning hotter and that fact may be the major contributing factor to global warming and for the changes in climate we seem to be experiencing.

There is a better explanation for global warming than air pollution, two Harvard researchers say: the Sun is increasing in brightness and radiance.

"Changes in the Sun can account for major climate changes on Earth for the past 300 years, including part of the recent surge of global warming," claims Sallie Baliunas, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA).

"We're not saying that variations in solar activity account for all of the global rise in temperature that we are experiencing," cautions her CfA colleague, astrophysicist Willie Soon. "But we believe these variations are the major driving force. Heat-trapping gases emitted by smokestacks and vehicles -- the so-called greenhouse effect -- appear to be secondary."

That sucks....I hope my kids aren't in the group of humans that dies off and becomes extinct! Things in the world are becomming more and more complicated!!!

Very interesting, I was under the impression that fossill fuel emissions were the major contributor. Though some may not believe me I really think we need to find alternatives to gas and oil. They are finite substances and at some point we will need another way of heating and mobilizing our society.

That original study was done a few years ago however there have been some follow up studies recently that back it up.

Partly backed up because we are seeing some melting of the ice cap on Mars and some melting of other icy bodies in our solar system.

I agree we need alternatives to oil. But not necessarily because of global warming. :wink:

Agreed Ultra, the Earth's climate as well as Hurricanes goes in cycles. The Earth has heated and cooled before, and it will do it again. Humans will see another Ice Age.

Actually we are presently in an Ice Age. The last few thousand years have just been a warm period in it. :smile:
If the sun is warming it may be that it will spell the end of this ice age and put us into an age more like that of the Dino's when the world was much warmer and had no ice caps at the poles.

If this proves to be the case then I would support an outdoor venue lol
