    Classics?
    Hardly.

    Classics are things like:

    * The Blues Brothers

    * Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger

    * Land Shark

    * Eddie Murphy as James Brown - "Hot Tub"

    * The Bees

    * Eddie Murphy as Alfalfa - "Unce, tice - tee times a maby"

    * Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood

    =Z=

    * The Samurai Deli

    * The Coneheads

    * Two Wild and Crazy Guys

    * One very specific "weekend update" - "Jane, you ignorant Slut."

    I'd even be willing to label some of the stuff from the early 90's as classics at this point

    * Church Lady

    * Wayne's World

    * Hanz and Franz

    And I wouldn't label this as a classic, but it always cracked me up for some reason

    * Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer

    Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I'm just a caveman. I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the honking horns of your traffic make me want to get out of my BMW.. and run off into the hills, or wherever.. Sometimes when I get a message on my fax machine, I wonder: "Did little demons get inside and type it?" I don't know! My primitive mind can't grasp these concepts. But there is one thing I do know - when a man like my client slips and falls on a sidewalk in front of a public library, then he is entitled to no less than two million in compensatory damages, and two million in punitive damages. Thank you.

    What about Val Kilmer as a retired Jet Fighter now a public airline captain telling everyone "You're dangerous...and that makes you...dangerous"
    "Johnson, we will keep on beating them until morale improves."

    I watched SNL with Spade, Farley Sandler but I had seen some of the classics, Eddie Murphy,John Belushi,chevy chase.for me it was Matt Foley motivational speaker. or Sandlers Opera man, or just snidley david spade's doing the rude ailrine attendendant.so I say Buh-bye to this thread.

    I get into arguements all the time with my dad...he raves about the belushi and chase years but the years with farley, carvey, meyers, and hartman to me are the best and ferrell is up there too. As far as the cowbell sketch how is that not a classic? One sketch thats hilarious but not a classic is Ride the Snake which featured Jim Carrey as Jimmy Tango, an exercise instructor. BTW that Val Kilmer sketch that someone brought up is hilarious. Also Ferrell's Dissing your dog is funny.

    The problem with all of these is, IMHO, they were so overplayed and the same joke week after week after week.
    Same thing with "Da Bears".

    That's what makes the early stuff so brilliant.
