I think I remember reading somewhere that Steve Martin was never actually in the cast of SNL. He was just a frequent guest host.

He's never listed.
Re: Funny SNL skits (Classics)
I really liked the Celebrity Jeopardy skits.
Chris Farley also had many good skits along with Adam Sandler.

Classics?
Hardly.
Classics are things like:
* The Blues Brothers
* Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger
* Land Shark
* Eddie Murphy as James Brown - "Hot Tub"
* The Bees
* Eddie Murphy as Alfalfa - "Unce, tice - tee times a maby"
* Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood

Well actually I think they listed him in the beginning credits as "Featuring Steve Martin". I think they would still have guest hosts even when Steve was on the show.
But you are right, he was never an actual cast member.
More Cowbell may not be a classic.
But it will be. That skit was funny as hell and definitely made its mark in Pop Culture.
Re: Funny SNL skits (Classics)
My favorites were when Will Ferrell did his Harry Carey bits.
Maybe not "classics", but I still love 'em.
Re: Funny SNL skits (Classics)
I liked it best when they had this guy on.
Instant classic.

Re: Funny SNL skits (Classics)
Actually, a classic is anything that is remembered from the past that is still funny or good today as it was then. How long ago does not matter. Yes these are classics as well. Example: This past Super Bowl was on TV again.......on ESPN Classic.
