With the first pick in the 2009...

    UFL draft

UFL Draft Is Off And Running

The inaugural United Football League Draft has officially started.

The event may lack the pomp and circumstance of the NFL’s version held at Radio City Music Hall, but this is as good as we’re going to get on a quiet night in June.
    Be part of history!

Instead of watching Chris Berman or Rich Eisen on TV, those who want to follow along should check out the Twitter pages of UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue and ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

The early picks have a few names you might recognize — barely.

Mortensen reports that Brandon Ledbetter, a tight end, was the first pick to San Francisco.

Former Patriot, Viking, and Panther tight end Jermaine Wiggins will bring his love of leaping defenders to Orlando.

Terrelle Maze, a cornerback from San Diego State, went to New York and former Cowboys running back Tyson Thompson went to Las Vegas.

Rounding out the top five was quarterback Brooks Bollinger, also last seen with the Cowboys.

He will play for the unnamed Orlando franchise.

I am still kind of curious how this works out for the league and how long they manage to be around.

Wiggins went to the UFL huh?
Wow, I am surprised he has been regulated to that.
Bollinger I think will be successful there.

This league will fail like the XFL failed.

Tonight the UFL held its inaugural "Premiere" Season Draft. Selections were made from players who participated in the League's recent workouts in Orlando and Las Vegas along with other available prospects.
Each franchise selected 24 players and now owns the rights to those players if they choose to play in the United Football League.
The UFL has already begun contacting the players listed below and expects to announce signings over the next few weeks.
This list may be subject to change based on further player evaluations or additional player availability.

The remaining openings on each team's roster will be partially filled in July with players who coaches had previously identified and "reserved". The last invites for the 60-man opening camp rosters will go to players who have been released by the NFL during training camp; with divisional/regional preferences assigned to each of the inaugural four franchises

    Nice. Especially this one.

    UFL ORLANDO
    NT BLEDSOE, FRED (ARKANSAS)
Quite interested in how he'll do.

I doubt that this league will be threatening the NFL any time soon, but it can't be as bad as the XFL. If they just show some football, they might actually survive.

Did that league even make one full season?
