Field of 128? Coaches want NCAA tourney expanded

I saw that article earlier...never gonna happen. BUT what they should do is this...take the 8 teams from the power conferences that are on the bubble and match them up with the 8 teams on the bubble from the mid-majors and lower conferences and let them all play in. No more of that one game play-in crap where two lower conference CHAMPIONS have to play each other to get to play the #1 seed (an almost automatic loss) in the REAL tournament...just so some major conference middle-of-the-pack team can get an at-large bid (read: MORE money for the major conferences). That way the middle-of-the-pack major conference teams on the bubble would have to prove that they actually deserved to be in over a top mid-major team. They could call it Bubble Week and once the 8 winners were determined, the 64 team field could be seeded properly.

That would be so bogus. I've always said during the regular season "ahh, it doesn't really matter how Michigan State does during the season, because it all goes out the window during the tournament".

Now, I could say "ahhh, it doesn't really matter how Northwestern East Central New York Community College does during the season............."

That would suck.

If the field was doubled that would only mean 1 more round, so an extra week or so.

128 teams would mean that about 1/3 of all D-I basketball teams would make the playoffs!!! That makes NO sense!!!

They would have to change their name to the NHL!!! :lol:

You would have to play double the games thought. I doubt they would play 65 basketball games in a week

Making it to the tourny should mean something. Regular season games would be almost meaningless if they expand too much

We might actually get to see the gophers basketball team in the tournament every now and then though. Not that they would deserve it, but thats one positive.
