Dorks worldwide rejoice - new Star Trek movie coming

Star Trek XI to Hit Theaters Christmas Day 2008
Posted Feb 28th 2007 11:32AM by Matt Bradshaw

Hardcore Star Trek fans can now start making plans for how they will be spending the evening of December 25, 2008; Paramount has announced that will be the day the newest Star Trek movie hits theaters. Whether those fans rejoice or march on Paramount studios demanding the head of director J.J. Abrams (who is also the man behind Mission Impossible III, Lost, and Alias) remains to be seen. The screenplay has been written by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci, and both writers will executive produce with Bryan Burk. J.J. Abrams and Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof will produce.
Now they have something to look forward to besides their next shipment of zit cream.

What the hell are they going to make it about? Kirk is dead, Picard has been retired since the Next Generation went off the air in the 90s and nobody gave a crap about Deep Space 9 or Voyager.

I'm not a Star Trek fan. Some of the first movies were alright, but overall I think it has outlived its purpose.

If I had to guess I suspect it will be all new characters with maybe a guest appearance or two.
They will try to use this movie to kick off a new tv series I would guess.

Didn't you read the article?
It's gonna be a prequel showing young Kirk, Spock, et. al.

What is it going to be?
Life at star trek academy?
I thought the original started with the maiden voyage of Kirk et. al.
Before that they were all on other ships.

Nope! Read the excerpt....that explains it then.

Shouldn't it be Star Trek 1/2? or just Star Trek? It's technically not Star Trek XI, because it doesn't come after X.

Kinda lame? I think so!

Re: Dorks worldwide rejoice - new Star Trek movie coming

You guys better NOT be dissin' my Star Trek!!! I'm not a "Trekkie" (i.e., I don't collect all the crap and I don't go to the conventions, but I DO like the shows and movies), but I am a fan of the whole genre, and I MAY just have to put a phaser blast in your @$$e$!!!

;D

I know it's not for everyone, but Star Trek is loved by a HE|| of a lot of people, and we're not all geeks!

Anyway, I for one will be in the theater when it comes out!
