Re: Direct TV or Dish network?

    It's pretty fucking simple people.

If you are not going to be buying NFL Sunday Ticket, buy DISH Network.

If you are going to be buying NFL Sunday Ticket, buy DirectTV.

Yup, pretty much sums it up for me.

    +1 same here.

Dish network has BY FAR the best and easiest user interface, and generally SLIGHTLY cheaper.
5 minutes of research will grant you that.

It does not however have NFL ticket.
So singer hit the nail on the head...it's a pretty simple choice.

    DT for the Sunday Ticket.
If you live in Minn, you may not need it.

IMHO Dish has the better user interface, better DVR, better HD channel lineup, and better prices. Plus they lease your receiver to you as opposed to making you spend $200 and buy one.
This is pretty important because a typical receiver is only intended to last about 4 years.
Dish also allows you to run local channels over the air in HD, and incorporates them into the guide and DVR as well.

However, your friend was a little off regarding the football games.
Dish does NOT have any kind of NFL game ticket.
Direct TV is the only one for that.
They do carry NFL RedZone (which is a really, really good for watching all the games live).
If you are in the local Vikings market, you will get the games locally anyway.

I would definately recommend Dish over DirectTV.
However, if you need the Sunday Ticket, then DirectTV is the only one that offers it.
I'm not trying to come off with a "Tude", for me it's a no-brainer. Does DTV come with the NFL channel? I get most of the Vikings games on DISH & am not into FF football, so paying an high price for a shit load of games I don't even watch is a waste of money, IMO.
The Redzone on DISH will give me all the scoring plays for all games if I was into FF & wanted it & it's far less cost than Sunday Ticket.

Also with DISH, I really like there guide & user interface to find & record programs. With DISH I get a dual DVR (don't know if DTV has that) that allows me to connect two tv's to one leased receiver. That allows me to record two different programs at one time or allows me to watch a program while recording another.

Also with DISH, I get Vikings Gameday & Vikings Weekly, two 1/2 hour programs on the Vikings pre & post games (don't know if DTV has that).

Compare prices & what channels you'll get that is similar to the package that DISH offers that includes ESPN & the NFL Network channel. Your preferences may differ than mine.

Also if you are into baseball, DISH has the equivalent package as Sunday Ticket, but for MLB baseball instead. (don't know if DTV has that)

Does DTV offer local channels with & without HD TV?

Yes, I get NFLN with DirecTv and the RZC is also available.

DirectTv has the dual DVR (We have 3). Personally I prefer the DTV format over the Dish, I think it is just personal preference on that subject. I do hate how long DTV takes to go from an HD channel to a non HD channel. Not sure if Dish is better there but that is really my only complaint.

Are they on regular channels? What network do they run on? I get the ones that are on the TC channels.

That may differ with Geography. I know this area is dominated by DTV and once i looked at switching but didn't find a reason.

Yes. Plus nascar, Hockey,NBA, College sports......

Yes. As a matter of fact Dish got in big trouble a few years back for offering locals illegally and it caused a bunch of people around here to switch to DTV because they had them and it was legal.

Living in Illinois, We've been lucky enough to have had every Viking game on so far, (local tv of course) So no need to switch to Direct TV for me, We still have the NFL network (Although the MLB network would be nice)
Anyway-obviously you'll want DTV for the NFL package.
Even if the Vikings lose, I can still find happiness in Bears, and Packer losses.
