Re: Diet Thread - for all those who want to lose weight

I have always been able to lose 25 pounds within a month at pretty much anytime and recently did it and think I might try to lose a few more ... the only thing I do honestly is count calories ... 2,000 or less a day and try to limit it to 1,750 a couple of times a week ... I dont pay attention to anything else ... not fat content, protein, carbs, etc. ... just the calories and I shed weight like crazy ...
I also dont do huge workouts ... I can double my weight loss by doing 50 push-ups and 50 sit-ups a day (the push-ups are much harder if you are not used to them) and then upping to 100 of each after a week or two ...
Without fail this always gets me in my best shape and gets me down at least 25 pounds ...
This past time the main thing I did was stop drinking regular sodas ... switched to one or two diet sodas a day and the rest water and the weight came off even faster ...
So there are some ideas and good luck with whatever course you choose ... it really is just about discipline I have found.

100% fruit juice is not bad for you. Its actually very healthy and loaded with vitamins and other good nutrients you need. Its the juice cocktails that are like only 20% juice and the rest sugar and other crap that are bad for you. Welches 100% Grape Juice and any kine of 100% apple juice I highly reccoment. But these should not be substitues for water. Water water water water water is the key. These drinks should only be used as an alternative once a day or at one meal a day, just so you can get the vitamins as well as have some flavor in your drink.
I hear you I didn't say it was bad for you just that it has a lot of calories in it.

Re: Diet Thread - for all those who want to lose weight

my situation was a little different but....

I am 5'6 and at one point I olny weighed 120 pounds. I ended up getting sick(ear infection) and going to the DR and he told me I had to gain about 40 pounds. I was not only very under weight I also only have about 4 percent body fat. As small as I was he was concerned for my health.

I started eating regular meals. Every day at the same time. Snacked hevaily( the DR told me to) and drank tons of juice, and diet drinks (with meals). and pretty soon (about 4 months) i was up to 190)

Went back to the DR and he told me good job, now cut our the juice snacks and diet drinks with meals. in one month I lost 45 pounds and have been the same since (155)

By having to gain so much wait because i was sickly I learned how to keep my weight down. Don't snack often, watch your portions(sure green beans are good for you but if you eat a pound of them they no longer are). Skip on juice(with sugar added) and pop. If you do eat a late night snack keep it light. Salad, small bowl of ceral fruit, or veggies. Don't eat to be full, eat so you will not be hungry untill the next meal time.

God stuff folks! Keep it coming!

Yes, water is a must. I buy flavored water which is really good. I am supposed to drink at least 60 oz. a day. But, I have a small bladder and find myself whizzing every 20 minutes.

I also take L-Carnitne and Alpha Lipoic acid. It helps with the metabolism of fat. I aslo take B-12 and Glutamine for protein synthesis.

I know I need to eat more veggies, especially leafy veggies.

I have a few pictures from me in High School before the Army. I was ripped! I'll scan and post them for your amusement!

Re: Diet Thread - for all those who want to lose weight

For me I've actually been eating healthier in the last few months (due to my girlfriend pushing lite meals and better eating habits on me, not because she thinks I'm fat, but just because she wants us to both be healthier).
Probably 5 of the 7 days in a week she'll make dinner, but she makes sure that it is with wheat pasta, or 91% lean beef or chicken with all the fat cut off (or most of it) etc. I don't drink as much beer as I used to (but now with the summer coming I will be, there's nothing better than an ice cold bud light on a hot summer day while grilling out!! I can't wait).
Being a phy ed teacher I teach a personal fitness class, which is more a weightlifting class so I lift MWF and I've actually gained weight (about 15-20 lbs) but I am a little (key word "little") slimmer in my waistline. I started out the school year benching (don't laugh) 115 pounds (5 reps) and now I am up to (don't laugh) 205 (5 reps).

The biggest things for dieting: stay away from pop, there are a ton of empty calories and carbs! Bread, tons of carbs. Cheese, tons of fat (unless reduced fat of course). Lastly, Beer and booze! So basically everything that most people enjoy. So if you don't eat or drink anything that you enjoy you can lose weight!!

Good luck all on your diets!

I get the most pissed off looks from people with my VKG 4 LFE Wisconsin license plate, and I LOVE IT!!

Re: Diet Thread - for all those who want to lose weight

I am 5'11" and weigh 190lbs.. I do gain a few pounds over winter, but nothing I guess I am really concerned about. I go for bike rides, and walks almost everyday, and sometimes I do both in the same day..

When I broke my neck, I went from 175lbs to about 260lbs in a matter of a few months. Almost 100lbs in about 12 weeks. That was nasty, but nothing I could do with being on the steroids to reduce swelling in my discs. Since that time I have lost rougly 70lbs. I was always in good shape before my auto accident, so I am guessing that is the reason that I was able to take off the weight so fast. I guess shedding some winter weight wouldn't be a bad thing, but I don't want to get to skinny for my height..

Re: Diet Thread - for all those who want to lose weight

I weigh 135 pounds and I'm 5' 10". I know since I am young this is something I probably shouldnt worry about but I really find myself counting calories. Eating too much makes me feel bad and if I read the back of the box and it is packed with calories and fat, it makes me want to eat it less.

I lost a lot of weight last summer for no apparent reason but nowadays I do a lot of things like weight lifting, sit-ups, push-ups, running, and playing sports. I am one of the people that drink diet soda occasionally (I don't see how it can make you gain weight, there's practically nothing in it) but it just tastes better to me.

There are some of my friends that call me fat and I have no idea why.. I can't tell if they are joking or not due to the fact that when I was fat a few years ago, I was subconcsious and it has carried over...

Anyways... I know I shouldn't really care about what I eat.. more how much I exercise.

Re: Diet Thread - for all those who want to lose weight

I think it is good for the people who are tenacious to lose a couple of pounds for the huge fact it is not healthy. I'm glad hearing most of you guys excercise and do everything you can to get here self fit and healthy again. Because for some people you can't get them to do any physical activity at all unless you ride your bike past their house dragging krispy cremes in the back of your bike. I just think some people have gotten lazy these days. Like I use to be 250 pounds till I dropped to 190 which I have been able to maintain. For some people like me though and many others it has to deal with genetics and metabolism. In that case I do not have a good metabolism.
