Cowboys Coach Claims Rat in Salad

DALLAS - Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Todd Haley is suing a suburban McDonald's, claiming his wife and the family's live in baby sitter found a dead rat in their salad.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in state district court seeks $1.7 million in damages, The Dallas Morning News reported on its Web site.

In addition to Haley, the Cowboys' passing game coordinator who got in a well-publicized shouting match with Terrell Owens earlier this month, the suit was also filed on behalf of his wife Christine and the family's au pair, Kathryn Kelley.

A message left for McDonald's Corp. spokesman Walt Riker on Thursday evening was not immediately returned.

According to the lawsuit, Christine Haley and Kelley had eaten part of the salad purchased June 5 at a McDonald's in Southlake before the dead rodent was uncovered.

The women became violently ill and endured long-lasting physical injuries, the lawsuit said.

In the Cowboys' loss to Philadelphia on Oct. 8, Owens was seen screaming at Haley on the sidelines. Owens later said his relationship with Haley was ruined, but then said after his three-touchdown game against the Texans on Oct. 15 that there was mutual respect between the two.

HALEY SUES McDONALD'S FOR RAT SALAD

In a football season that has been as bizarre as any football season we can remember, Cowboys receivers coach Todd Haley has sued McDonald's, claiming that his wife and the family's live-in babysitter found a rat in a salad they were eating in June.

The women began eating the salad before the rat was found, and then allegedly became violently ill.

Haley's claim likely arises from the concept known under the law as loss of marital consortium.
The argument is that the injuries suffered by his wife impacted his marriage.
Haley's wife and the babysitter are also plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

In our view, it would have made more sense for Haley to not add his name to the lawsuit.
Whether the plaintiffs are only Mrs. Haley or both husband and wife, the jury is likely to award the same total amount, if any, for the alleged injuries.
Given that Haley has a relatively high-profile profession, he should have taken a low profile in the lawsuit.

And our guess is that the lawsuit isn't against McDonald's Corporation, but against the local company that owns and operates the McDonald's-franchised restaurant.
So even though the suit is against McDonald's, it's not actually against McDonald's.

Meanwhile, we're hearing that Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens assisted the family is identifying the creature that was in the salad.

    As Owens said:
"If it looks like a rat and smells like a rat, by golly, it is a rat."
Ick, man. I guess there are worse things than rats tho.

What, having to serve food to any member of the Cowboy organization?
Yeah, I guess that would suck. Come to think of it, I'd probably put a rat in a Cowboy's salad too.

I can't believe they're more worried about the Rat in the salad than the Rat in the locker room.

    Bullshit!

Does anyone here know how big a McDonalds salad is or the container they put it in?

Now, do you know how big a rat is?

How does anyone put the salad in the container & not realize there is a rat in it?

I don't know about Texas, but the rats here are huge (up to 1 pound) & wouldn't even fit in the container.

And they claim everything is bigger in Texas.

A mouse maybe, but even that should be quite noticeable when putting the salad in the container.

    Cowboys | Haley suing a suburban McDonald's

The Associated Press reports Dallas Cowboys passing game coordinator Todd Haley is suing a suburban McDonald's after claiming his wife and their family's live-in babysitter found a dead rat in their salad. The lawsuit filed Thursday, Oct. 26 in state district court seeks $1.7 million in damages, according to The Dallas Morning News. A spokesman for the family, Scott Casterline, said the rat was about six inches long and found on its back with its mouth opened. Casterline said the women didn't find the rat until taking the salad home to eat and that a manager from the McDonald's "didn't offer any comfort" after driving to their house to see the rat. The suit was filed after McDonald's failed to follow through on promises "to make things right," according to Casterline. The lawsuit claims the two women had eaten part of the salad purchased June 5 before the dead rodent was uncovered. Both became violently ill and endured long-lasting physical injuries, according to the lawsuit.

maybe it passes for 'home cooking' in that part of Texas

I'd be more concerned about that... doesn't make me feel like ordering a McDonalds salad...

What kind of physical injuries? Did they break an arm or something eating the salad.

Scott Casterline, said the rat was about six inches long and found on its back with its mouth opened
    Two things;

    1. If that's a head to tip of tail measurement, we have mice bigger than that. Does that even qualify as a rat? So much for the claim that everything is bigger in Texas.

    2. The so-called rat was found dead on his back in the salad. If a rat dies from eating a McDonalds salad, that speaks volumes of what not to order from McD's.
