Coming to Minnesota

Have any of you twin cities residents ever been to the battle of the jug bands at the Cabooze in years past? I've played in it for the past few years, and this year's battle is this weekend. Now, this year, there were "issues" with getting us on the band list, so I won't be playing. However, the battle never was anything more to us than an excuse to get together with friends from college and spend a weekend drinking and catching up on all the BS, so I'll still be making the trip. I know I'll be at Palmer's on Friday night, and the Cabooze on Sunday, so if any of you are in that area, and see me, stop by and say hi. I'll be the 6'3 guy that looks suprisingly normal among all the hippies, punks, and whatnot that makes up the crowds at those places - They're fun places to hang out.

What's a jug band? I think I know what it is...but not being from Minnesota, I can't be certain!

Was Mungo Jerry part of a jug band?

You know, washboards, washtub basses, spoons, guitars, mandolins, buckets for drums, kazoos, harmonicas, other homemade instruments, bluegrass music, ... that sort of thing. It's not my normal style of music, but like I said, it's basically an excuse to get together with old friends at least once a year.

There was one year where when one of the bands did a whole set of Ramones covers, jug band style.

We're still working on plans to sign up as the "Joe-C Memorial Jug Band" and do a set full of Kid Rock.
