Thread: Clowns 'universally disliked' by children

LONDON (Reuters) - Bad news for Coco and Blinko -- children don't like clowns and even older kids are scared of them.

The news that will no doubt have clowns shedding tears was revealed in a poll of youngsters by researchers from the University of Sheffield who were examining how to improve the decor of hospital children's wards.

The study, reported in the Nursing Standard magazine, found all the 250 patients aged between four and 16 they quizzed disliked the use of clowns, with even the older ones finding them scary.

"As adults we make assumptions about what works for children," said Penny Curtis, a senior lecturer in research at the university.

"We found that clowns are universally disliked by children. Some found them quite frightening and unknowable."

That is unbelievable.
I personally don't like clowns either, but 100% out of 250!
That is nuts.


I don't mind clowns from a distance, like the ones who jump in barrels at the rodeo, but once they get within 50 feet of me, it's on.

I think clowns are really creepy...but Tim Curry was excellent as Pennywise.

Maybe some of you remember these TV episodes with clowns:

- Seinfeld "The Fire", where George pushes everyone out of the way to run outside.

- Mary Tyler Moore Show, when "Chuckles the Clown" died, and she had the giggles at the funeral.

I thought they were universally disliked by humanity in general.

With Characters like "Homey The Clown" or the fiendish "Killer Clowns" from outer space it's no wonder some folks are scared of them.

Personally I like most clowns....except for the ones with Blocks of Cheese on there heads.

It's not normal that grown men dress up in stupid close and wear tons of makeup. Even kids understand that, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

I think the fact that John Wayne Gacey Dressed like a clown and murdered like 3,000 people and stuffed them under his house might have something to do with it. ;D

Remember Kramer on "Seinfield?" He was afraid of clowns. I did an interview once with a bunch of rodeo clowns. They were great guys.
