But this off season blows. I just read we traded Ronny Cedeno for Aaron Heilman. WTF

WTF is Ronny Cedeno has been a waste of carbon for the Cubs for 3 years now.
He wasn't going to crack the lineup and his pinch-hitting skills (and defensive-replacement skills) are not needed.

    =Z=
No kidding. Cedeno had a few nice moments as a Cub, but his skills are far below the level of 'irreplaceable'.
I agree he's not irreplaceable but he's what you want from a guy who comes off the bench. He batted 270, got some RBI's, hit a couple homeruns, fills in at a couple different positions and was cheap. Meanwhile I don't see anything positive coming from Heilman. We already have some guys better than him fighting for the #5 spot and a crowded bullpen.

Piniella, Big Z, Bradley recall past openers on eve of '09

HOUSTON -- They were still tacking the red, white and blue bunting onto the front of the upper deck at Minute Maid Park on Sunday when the Cubs took the field for one more workout before the franchise's 134th regular season begins.

"Here we are, and it starts for real tomorrow," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said on the eve of Monday's season opener against the Houston Astros. "We have to get some adrenaline going and get off to a good start."

This will be Piniella's third Opening Day with the Cubs, and his 22nd as a big league manager. And that doesn't include another 23 seasons as a player.

"They're still fun," Piniella said. "You still get up for them, you still get the goosebumps, you still get nervous. If you don't go through that, you don't belong in uniform."
Zambrano vs. Oswalt tonight, 6pm CST on ESPN2.

Ace claims first win to start season; Soriano, Ramirez homer

    By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com
    04/06/09 10:00 PM ET

HOUSTON -- Alfonso Soriano hit his 50th career leadoff homer to help Carlos Zambrano pick up his first Opening Day win as the Cubs began defense of the National League Central Division with a 4-2 win Monday night over the Houston Astros.

It was Zambrano's first win in five season openers. Lance Berkman singled with one out in the second to spoil any thought of the Cubs' right-hander duplicating his no-hitter feat from last Sept. 14 at Miller Park, which was the last time he faced the Astros. Zambrano struck out six and served up five hits over six-plus innings in front of a Minute Maid Park record crowd of 43,827.
    Only 161 more to go!
