PITTSBURGH -- The Cubs came up with their own version of winning ugly.
They blew a seven-run lead and committed three errors on Monday before rallying for a 10-8, 12-inning win over the pesky Pittsburgh Pirates in a 4-hour, 47-minute marathon that didn't have to happen.

"You don't mind making errors in inconsequential times," said Chicago's Mark DeRosa, whose seventh-inning error led to the Pirates' tying run. "That game should've been over an hour and a half ago. I never point fingers at anyone else, I always point the finger at myself.

"I feel like we played the extra innings because of me," he said. "I'll forget about it a lot easier when we win ballgames."

one of the traditions of Wrigley Field is the flying of a flag bearing a "W" or an "L" atop the scoreboard after a game ... a white flag with a blue "W" indicates a victory; a blue flag with a white "L" denotes a loss.

This was done so that Chicagoans taking the El home could see what happened at Wrigley from the windows of the train cars as they whizzed past.

I don't have an "L" flag.
I don't believe they sell those.

I have already made sure to tell several of my neighbors what the flag means so that they DON'T think that.

That is a smart idea. So did you take it down when the Brewers won?

I run it up after a Cubs victory and then take it down when I take down the USA flag at night.

Not sure how I'm going to handle it for night games, but I intend to fly it after EVERY victory, and take a picture.
