I thought he had one pretty good skit on SNL. The one where he looks in the mirror and says something along the lines of "because I'm good enough, smart enough and people like me." Does anyone remember that?
Stuart Smalley was the character's name, good skit.
Personally I agree with many of Franken's views, but I guess I'm in the minority
    Nope, just the "oddmanout"!

    Re: CAUTION: POLITICS

I, for one agree with every thing he says, and I think he is probably one of the funniest people to ever live. His books are so funny, I have read every one many times and they get better and better each time. Has anybody read "Why Not Me?" by Franken? It has nothing to do with his politics, but it is so funny. "Why Not Me? The story of the Al Franken Presidency." His main point is that ATM fees are too high. So hilarious. I suggest everybody read it, its so so funny.

    Al Franken is my hero.

Are you guys just saying that because he is a Democrat? Because that is not why I'm dissing him. I just think that he is a shameless self-promoter who mugs for the camera at every turn...give me someone with more substance please!

    Re: CAUTION: POLITICS

Regardless of whether or not he is funny, I cannot even come close to taking him seriously politically.

First of all, he seems like another elitist Hollywood type who uses his fame as an excuse to start grandstanding based on these 3 horrendously incorrect assumptions:
    1. People are actually listening.
    2. Their opinions will truly have an effect on political discourse.
    3. They know what the hell they're talking about.

Fortunately, in this great country every person has the right to say anything that doesn't incite violence, contrary to what people like Mr. Franken would want you to believe. We are allowed to express opinions about our political leaders. Have you seen any Democrats get arrested for disagreeing with the President? Was the Democratic National Convention broken up by police in riot gear who promptly shattered everyone's skulls and lynched anyone who was still alive? No? Are you sure you haven't missed something? You mean democracy as we know it HASN'T DIED YET!? That's IMPOSSIBLE!!! This must be a fabrication by "conservative media." (:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:A lie even funnier than the existance of a "liberal media.":lol::lol.

Anyway, uh, where was I? That ranting led me just a bit off track there. Oh, yes. Al Franken has a right to be complete moron.

Second, much like "Doonesbury," his humor has become much too predictable and vitriolic to be funny at all.

Finally, rather than propose any counterplans, he just pokes fun at Republicans, like many Democrats are doing these days. I'll admit that some ridicule is justifiable, given the pathetic lack of true fiscal conservatism in the Republican Party today. However, I don't think he would accomplish much in the current political climate. He might even worsen it.

Well, I probably should stop talking about politics before I start to need my "little happy pills."

Thank you, and God help us! :salute:
