    Very possible.
The Discovery channel had a show on where they went down to the Amazon in search of "Giant Catfish" after a report of one swallowing a person.
They pulled several of these types of monsters out in a catch and release and they pulled out a couple even bigger than this one.
It was a couple weeks ago and I caught the show as I was walking through to the patio.
I don't know the name of the show, or what day time slot it was in so I can't post a link.

    River Monsters.

There was about an 8 episode season of it.
I don't know if it is on much now until next spring for season 2.

    Giant jiggly butt sturgeon.
They have those in Lake Sakakawea between Minot and Bismarck in North Dakota.
Stand up on the bluffs and you can see schools of them swimming around.
They lay at the base of the dam with their mouths open and just wait for something to swim in.

According to the article, they released it after they documented the catch.

Personally, I wouldn't want to give that thing a chance at revenge.
