    I just don't understand what the huge deal is. Yes it's a horse, and it's a living, breathing animal, so we don't really WANT it to die. At the same time though, what makes his life so much more important than any other animal's?

    He won a race. Big deal. Every day thousands of cows and pigs and chickens are slaughtered for meat and family pets are put down left and right because of old age and sickness. Heck, they used to shoot the horses right there on the track when they sustained this sort of injury!

    Am I rooting for Barbaro to get better? Sure I am. It's horrible to see an animal suffer, but I just don't really think his injury justifies national news coverage!

    I completely agree. Not to mention the PEOPLE that are slaughtered on a daily basis. I'm an animal lover, but greed just doesn't pull at my heart strings.
