The plug ins actually make me sad....lol after all those years messing with photoshop learning how to make fire, ice, water, you name it..........now there is a plugin where you just click a button and bingo!!!

The graphic design industry is becoming very watered down.
I know what you mean Del.

In the past if a person knew Photoshop and Illus, man you could make some big bucks.

But now they just get the plug in and bam your out of a job.

I spend my days checking customer supplied ads for errors and fixing them now and passing them on to be placed in our 4 Horticulture Mags. Yippee!!!

I guess what makes me rare is the fact that I know all the apps.

Most of the college hires only really know about 3 tops.
So I get to teach them as well.

But it is a lost art form now.

The pay is still pretty good. $24.75 an hour.

Back in the day I was pulling $38

    Oh the good ole days.

    6-KINGS
Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this worlds gone crazy
Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
    Didn’t seem so hazy

    (chorus)

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days

    Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don’t know
And grandpa, let’s wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago

    (repeat chorus)

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other come what may
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

That's right and we liked it like that!!!
None of those new fancy smancy college folk drivin' down our wages.
We did it all ourselves, no 500 plug ins to push and do the work for us.
We struggled and took forever and we liked it like that.
It gave us a reason to complain. And now all we hear is college this and college that.
The only good thing about college now is the young babes. They like bein' with a man who knows how to do it the "old fashioned" way.

I am one of those college losers, but it isn't my fault. I knew the applications prior to school. The employers required the degree not me

But now I am into some freelance stuff on the side. Where I can actually take my time. Graphic design on a commercial level doesn't have time to wait around for some old geezer to do it right I guess. Time is money...sort of deal.

I have found that the one thing that can't be fixed by a plug in, is the ability to simply design. The principles...the eye if you will what looks good, what makes sense?

The first design company I worked for got mad when I had sketch pads lying around my area. They said it should all be done on computer. I used to always carry a sketch pad and on lunch or if a new project came my way, first thing I would do is go to town just sketching. I quit after a year. Landed a cushy government job.....doesn't let me explore much in the avenue of creative freedom. But it pays the bills, and I paint and design on the side for fun more then anything.

What's funny is when your hand made...anything....looks better then the plug in variety. I don't even mind the plug in's but you can tell when someone has a lack of the basic principles in their cranium. Hell honestly I would be a full time starving artist is I didn't have a wife and kids
