Why can I not upload a picture from my computer? It won't open the picture up, just get that stupid box with a red x in it.

I had the same problem, even when I changed the avatar to fit the required parameters.
What I finally did was just paste the link where it says "Link to off-site URL" in your profile and it usually works no matter how big the picture is."Meet at the quarterback!" -Purple People Eaters

The best thing to do is have it hosted by photbucket.com.
