    Author Arthur C. Clarke dies

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/books/03/18/obit.clarke/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

In a videotaped 90th birthday message to fans, Clarke said he still hoped to see some sign of intelligent life beyond Earth, more work on alternatives to fossil fuels -- and "closer to home," an end to the 25-year civil war in Sri Lanka between the government and ethnic Tamil separatists.
Sad day. I really enjoyed reading his books.
He was 90 and accomplished a lot in his lifetime. My favorite movie is 2001: A Space Odyssey. His work with Kubrick on that film really shows on the screen.
    Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

He was indeed a very accomplished author. I've read all of the books in the 2001 series (2001, 2010, 2061 and 3001). He helped develop one of the first early-warning radar systems in WWII. And he was a great humanitarian. He will be missed.

I heard an interview with him...very cool guy. His work will live on for a long long time.
