Depends on the problem. If the temp get around 103 you need to get it down big time.

how do I get the temp down?

Sitting in a cold water filled bath tub will bring it down. I have had to do it before and it works, but it isn't the greatest. Try luke warm water first and then keep adding cold water as you can stand it. It usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Ibuprofen or Acetamenaphine (Tylenol) ASAP.

Place a damo wash cloth on forehead. If really bad sit in the bathtub in cool water.

The high temp is the really dangerous thing. Many people are not aware of it, but the flu is deadly. I do not mean to scare you but it is the truth. Although a few small % do actually die; it is serious.

I was a Medic in the Army and I am very skilled at treating people.

I mean I hear you.......but he can't hold anything down so I have hesitated giving him tylenol

I know, its tough.

Give it to him with the minimal amount of water. If he yacks right away, do it again. You will at least get some absorption.

Not sure you can really prevent that DC, but I know that whenever I feel like I'm starting to get sick I take these immune defense pills. Sorry I don't know exactly what they are called, but they do work.
