Another Gophers RB bites the dust...
Gophers Suspend RB Thomas
(AP) Minneapolis Another day, another Minnesota running back suspended.
Coach Glen Mason has suspended Jay Thomas for the season-opener against Kent State because of a violation of team rules. That happened two days after he suspended Brylee Callender indefinitely for the same reason.
The redshirt freshman who starred at Tartan High School in nearby Oakdale was expected to provide some much-needed depth in an already thin Gophers backfield.
The Gophers lost junior Laurence Maroney, who was drafted by New England. Then Gary Russell, the top returning rusher who set a school record for rushing touchdowns last season, was ruled academically ineligible.
Thomas' suspension means that Alex Daniels, a sophomore who is currently making the transition from linebacker to running back, could be the Number Two back behind starter Amir Pinnix, the only player with any real experience at the position left.
Sh!tty. First Russell, now this...

That kid went to my high school! As long as Pinnix doesn't get suspended we'll be ok.
