The article doesn't really give enough information as to how the accident took place.
If the driver was doing something stupid...such as racing around a neighborhood, than yeah I'd like to douse his testicles in lighterfluid and toss the match.
If the parents were being careless and letting their child run through a parking lot, then maybe the parents should have been the victims to the mob.
The story is a poor one with limited facts and information.

I wasn't trying to say it's no big deal...
Just that exactly how he died is somewhat irrelevant.
I guess the question I got out of it was...
Was it vigalante justice?, or irrational murder based on idiot presumtions?

It's hard to judge about hypothetical scenarios. But I feel pretty confident that I would never take justice into my own hand. And as long as I didn't risk my own life I'd go far to try and prevent others in entering that enterprise as well.

Exactly Marr!
Like I said, if it were my kid and it happened outside my home, under my close supervision... I'd take out the golf club, lighter fluid and a match out of my garage..then proceed with some vigalante justice.
Then I'd kiss my wife goodbye and head off to prison.
Once you take my two year old child, you might as well take me with.

As I stated, I am not a supporter of group vigalante justice but I am a proponent of sticking up for whats mine.
Again, my first comment was based on what came to my mind when I first read this.
Glad the kid isn't hurt and I feel sorry for the guys partner/passanger but............Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

I can easily understand that feeling. And that's why I also say that it's difficult to judge a reaction in a hypothetical scenario.
But I also feel very strongly opposed to people taking justice into there own hands.

Re: Angry crowd kills passenger in car that struck child
First of all, it was the PASSENGER that was killed. What did HE do to "deserve" anything? He wasn't driving, he wasn't the negligent parent of the child, he was a passenger in a automobile.
Did I miss something ???

There is rarely a case when vigalante justice is truely for the better.
It would be difficult at times to sit back and wait for the police to do there thing.
There is absolutly no reason for the passenger of this car to get murdered, but I'm betting there is more to the story than we are hearing.
It is really sad...nobody wins.
Hopefully they catch members of this "mob" and lock them away.

Nope, the guy that was killed did absolutely nothing but try to protect the driver from the mob. I live in Austin as well where this happened and saw the story on the news, however, the details are lacking.First of all, it was the PASSENGER that was killed. What did HE do to "deserve" anything? Sounds like somebody decided these guys needed to be beat up and the rest joined in.
I wasn't there so I don't know if the driver was being an idiot, but either way it got out of hand.

Members said the community should not to look at this as race-on-race violence.
"We also want them to know that it is not black versus Hispanic or any type of racial situation," said Rita Gonzales Garza of LULAC. "We want the community, both black, brown and white, to work together to help solve this crime and bring justice."
