All in the family....My Aunt is in some deep trouble it looks like...

Hopefully, she will get the help she needs, she's battled mental illness her whole life....Hell of a nice lady when she takes her meds as needed, but when she doesn't, she can be way out there...Must run in the family, I have some issues myself...

    Sorry Ned,

I work in the field, people don't alweays understand the biological components of mental illness, plus the stigma associated with it.
i hope she gets the help she needs.

Thanks for the supportive words there Mike.
You are correct, most people don't take the time to learn, or try to understand, just what makes some people tick or not tick...

Like I said, my aunt is a wonderfull woman, when she takes care of herself.
But when she doesn't, even I don't want to be around her.

Just for a little idea of how she can be, and much different from this episode, last Christmas she gave me a stuffed dog ( Rotwiller) for Christmas.
Hell, I'm going on 47 years old in a couple of weeks. Last thing I need is a stuffed dog for Christmas....To make it even worse, she is loaded with money and a single woman ( never married), and just a few weeks before Christmas she asked me what I wanted.
I told her, anything to do with fishing, like maybe a nice fishing pole......

But this just goes to show, how some peoples minds just don't work correctly..

I'll have to go and visit her tomorrow and support her, she is still my Dads sister and my Aunt...

I'm really sorry to hear about your aunt Ned.
Hopefully she'll get the help she needs right now and the "law" will take it easy on her seeing as how it sounds like a treatable mental illness, and the fact that she is nearly 70 years old and doesn't belong in jail.
Your aunt will be in my prayers.

Thanks for the prayers BloodyHorns82, I think she is going to need them.
But I also believe she will be commited to Connecticut Vally Hospital, which is a hospital for the mentaly disabled.....Flat out prison wouldn't be where she belongs.

Whats sad is, my aunt and I both suffer from some of the same illnesses.....But I take my meds daily and faithfully......And when I do that, I'm an okay guy......But if I don't, well thats a whole other story....

You know, I'll never understand why people with conditions like that don't take their meds regularly.
It seems like a lot of people with illnesses often times just decide to "go off" the meds.
Do you think it has something to do with the individual doing so well that they start to think they don't need them?
Or is it more of an issue with not wanting to rely on meds to be "normal"?
Just curious, I've had some issues with my family, and I just don't understand why they don't take them when everyone who loves them agrees that they are 500% better off with the treatment.

    Nice reply Bloodyhorns,

Having been on the roller coaste myself for many years, I believe it's a combination of both.

You start to feel good and good things are happening to you, llife is looking rosey and then you think, I've got this thing licked...

    NOT

Stop the meds on your own, then slowly, or even sometimes very quickly, you are stuck in that seat going downhill faster than ever before.

And each time this happens, it makes it that much harder to get back on the right track and start on handling your needs again...

It can be a very vicious cycle for some people....

I've watched my Aunt try to deal with this so called cycle her whole life....It can be and is very sad to see someone you love go thru this their whole life...

Sorry to hear, Ned. Hopefully she gets the help she needs and, with you and the rest of the family's support, hopefully, things will look better down the road.
