If you guessed number 2 you are correct!Report/Statement was that the older son said he saw the boy in the basket on the lower part of the saucer when it took off.
Possibilities.
1.) Kid went up and fell out.
Not likely because they said the door wasn't breached.
2.) Kid is on the ground hiding because he accidentally launched dad's helium balloon.
3.) The initial story was fabricated and it was a hoax.

Boy found at home after runaway balloon chase
Hmm, yeah right! The brothers just happened to be on the roof of the home with camera in hand, at the time the balloon took off.Bob Licko, 65, said he was leaving home when he heard commotion in the backyard. He said he saw two boys on the roof with a camera, commenting about their brother.
Couple that with the father alerting the media first before the police & it reeks like it was planned out all along.

Richard Heene, the man suspected of the alleged "balloon boy" hoax, was driven by a conviction that the world will come to a cataclysmic end in 2012, according to a friend.

It's kind of funny that Falcon Heene is being referred to as "Balloon Boy", given the fact that he never actually got inside.
With that said then, from now on I will refer to myself as "Jessica Alba Man"

Richard Heene, the man suspected of the alleged "balloon boy" hoax, was driven by a conviction that the world will come to a cataclysmic end in 2012, according to a friend. What a nutjob this guy turned out to be.Mr Thomas's lawyer, Linda Lee, claimed: "Heene believes the world is going to end in 2012. Because of that he wanted to make money quickly, become rich enough to build a bunker or something underground, where he can be safe from the sun exploding."
Should of locked him up as soon as he named his son "Falcon".Skol!
Go Vikings!
