The 50K Hockey shot, on not?!

    http://www.startribune.com/sports/preps/127839543.html

FARIBAULT, Minn. - Eleven-year-old Nate Smith made an incredible shot putting a puck through a tiny hole 89 feet away. Now he and his family are waiting to hear whether he'll collect a $50,000 prize or be whistled for a rules violation instead.

Interesting that he waited til the next day to be honest about it.
With the national press it got I'm not sure there was any option other than to be honest about it.

They have to tell, otherwise they are teaching their kids directly that it is OK to lie in certain circumstances.

My parents more or less taught me that it was OK to lie in certain circumstances and I have had honesty issues my entire life because of it (not that I don't love my parents, but they definitely have bend the rules/truth issues).

This was the right thing to do. Especially with twins, because they are in a situation where there whole life they will have the ability to manipulate and deceive. Kudows to their dad.

Maybe, maybe not. If it was just him and the wife sitting there and the one kids name gets called and out walks the twin brother it's very possible that the only ones who know where the immediate family.

You are right though that regardless of the circumstances it would be tough to keep up a lie in the national spotlight, esecially when a couple of kids were involved.

    See balloon boy.

The national press only started reporting once the dad came forward. So, yes, "props" for telling the truth. However, the time to have told the truth was before you sent the twin on the ice.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

    Good shout Z.

Wonder why they did that?.. unless they bought 2 tickets, one each for the boys, and put their name on it knowing that one had zero interest in doing it so they figured it wouldnt make it as its not like they'd get picked let alone actually make the freckin shot.!

Re: The 50K Hockey shot, on not?!

Fairly easy to see how this happened...one kids playing around outside and his name gets called. The other kid is just sitting there so the parent probably says go down and take the shot...it's just for fun after all. Then, low and behold the kid actually makes it...now they have a dilemma on their hands.

I'd do the same thing. Although to be fair it would have been better to come clean immediately following the shot, or better yet not take the shot at all, but what fun is that?

I guess what I'm saying is, until somebody wins, it's just a dumb publicity/promotions game and I'm betting nobody even thought twice about sending the twin brother out there in his place...until of course he actually made the shot. Ooooops.

Yeah, i wonder how long after the puck went through the hole that they realized "CRAP, it's not the right kid who took the shot!"
