    2008 Team USA Basketball

Here's the list of guys that have been invited to "try out" for the final 12 man roster that will hit the court in the '08 Olympics...

    Carmelo Anthony
    Lebron James
    Kobe Bryant
    Lamar Odom
    Shawn Marion
    Amare Stoudamire
    Dwayne Wade
    Gilbert Arenas
    Shane Battier
    Chauncey Billups
    Chris Bosh
    Bruce Bowen
    Elton Brand
    Dwight Howard
    Antawn Jamison
    Joe Johnson
    Brad Miller
    Chris Paul
    Paul Pierce
    Michael Redd
    Luke Ridnour
    JJ Redick
    Adam Morrison

Wow...what a freakin' team! It's be interesting to see which 12 guys make it, but I really think they are going to take back the gold in '08.

I think the final roster will be:
    Kobe Bryant
    Lebron James
    Carmelo Anthony
    Shawn Marion
    Elton Brand
    Chris Paul
    Shane Battier
    Amare Stoudamire
    Dwayne Wade
JJ Redick (or at least I hope so :grin
    Brad Miller
    Dwight Howard

Those are my picks anyway...but who really knows how it will go between now and then?

One thing you can see through a lot of them is their connection to Coach K (who's the team's coach). Redick, Battier and Brand all played for him and Chris Paul, Antawn Jamison and Chris Bosh all played against him in the ACC. Not to mention the fact that he recruited Kobe and Lebron. These are all guys who Coach K is familiar with, who will practice hard, and will make the full 3 year commitment to the national team. Not all of them are superstars (which is the problem Team USA had last games) but the ones who aren't are role players. A guy like Battier might not be a star, but if you don't think he'd make that team better than another superstar would have then you're a fool. Redick is a tremendous shooter, Brad Miller is a very good rebounder, Kobe is the scorer, Lebron a great all around player, Dwayne Wade is a scoring point and distributor, and Luke Ridnour is a pass first, very fundamental kind of player who fits Olympic basketball well. Every single one brings something different to the table, and I think they're going to be a force!

I'm really looking forward to seeing these guys in action at the World Championships and at the Olympics in '08.

    Where's the "Big Ticket".

Bowen will make it. They need a lock-down defensive player for the team!

    Cannot win with just offense.

I wish we had a great Center on this team.

Shaq could do it, even at his age, but he probably wants to be a sheriff or a poliseman in the offseasons.

I think the selection of guys is fair. It is a group of Young talented players. The guys like DINCun, KG, Carter, AI, Webber are older and all had there shot to make a commitment the last 2 OL Games. I might give Shaq an alternate spot because, face it, he is still a dominant C in the NBA.

Shaq at 40 will be better than Miller in the middle. The two on the FT line, is a different story all together.

I said this in the previous post, but will say it again. I think the guys that have had their chance to make the commitment were snubbed just for that reason. If someone like Duncan or KG (not AI) would come up and say hey Coach, I want to make the commitment they might get a shot to try out but their attitude for the last Games was like "who cares." I realize it was in the wake of the 9-11 conflict and there were some concerns about safety but if they wanted to play for there country and wanted to prove we are the best, they should have been lining up to play.

Well, I am glad to see that we have some shooters.

Thats what killed us last Olympics...no shooters. The other teams sat back and palyed zone!

They asked Shaq to be on the roster, but he wasn't really sure about playing. At first he was against it, then after he met with the Director of USA Basketball (Jerry Colangelo) he changed his tune a bit. I think Colangelo said today on Mike and Mike that basically the door was left open to Shaq if he wants in.

Ick...not percentage wise! He's a shooter meaning he shoots a lot...but he shoots 42% total (which isn't horrible but....) he only shoots 31% from behind the arc.

Not a consistant perimeter and long range shooter; Redd is and even Bowen.

Well we did have shooters but they choked... If we load up on shooters I wonder if the teams will go back to 1 on 1, in which case we can just post up down low.
